Coaching Background

Pokey Chatman boasts an accomplished record with success at every level of women’s basketball. Once regarded as one of the nation’s best recruiters, she quickly became known as one of the top up-and-coming coaches. While at the helm, her LSU Lady Tigers were 105-19, advanced to 3 Final Fours, and claimed two SEC titles.

There are few coaches in basketball history that can match the success that Chatman enjoyed in her years as head coach that include Division 1 College Basketball (LSU), Euroleague (Russia) and the WNBA (Chicago & Indiana).

Chatman began breaking barriers during her days as a college point guard. Playing for the legendary Gunter from 1987-91, Chatman led the Lady Tigers to the 1991 conference tourney championship while earning honors as the tournament MVP. She helped LSU to its first Southeastern Conference Tournament title as a senior point guard, and later helped the program climb the national rankings as both an assistant and head coach.

Still the school’s record-holder in career steals (346), she owned the LSU assists standard for 14 seasons before she watched it fall while patrolling the sidelines. The Louisiana native ushered in the 3-point era at LSU by pacing the Lady Tigers in 3-point percentage in each of four seasons. She led the SEC in 3-point field goals made as a junior and senior.
